boot cdrom with grub?

I wonder why the BIOS can boot from a cdrom but not grub…! Strange. There are people which have successfully managed to get a boot entry for a cdrom into the grub menu but it didn’t work for myself. In my opinion it should somehow be possible! Every only half way working computer can boot from at least one CD! Why not grub? It can boot from a floppy too…
